Pearson
College is a unique 2 year pre-university school that brings
200 students from 100 countries to live and learn together
in a small seaside village on Canada's stunning pacific coast.
All students pursue the full International Baccalaureate Diploma
Program while living in an intimate community with faculty,
staff and their families. A wide range of activities are offered,
but innovation is welcome and students are encouraged to find,
pursue and share what they are passionate about. All students
attend on full scholarship and are selected based on promise
and potential, regardless of race, religion, politics or financial
means.
Pearson
College was named in honour of the work done by the late Canadian
Prime Minister and Canada's only Nobel Peace Laureate, Lester
B. Pearson. Lester Pearson initiated the work to found a United
World College “of the Pacific” as a way of continuing the
promotion of peace and understanding in the world. As one
of 13 United World
Colleges worldwide, the College aims to educate the whole
person and work towards peace, compassion and understanding
between peoples.

The
Campus at
Pearson College was designed to complement the beautiful West
Coast rainforest. The campus is nestled in the woods right on
the shore of the Pacific Ocean. A visit to Pearson College is
an opportunity to experience a forest and sea environment up-close.
We have access to all the benefits of ocean-side living...kayaks,
canoes, occasional seal-sightings, and peaceful evenings by
the water. |

Accommodation at the College is provided in five West Coast contemporary houses. You will share a comfortable bedroom with three other students, in a residence of forty students. The houses each have a common room, full bathroom and shower facilities, washers and dryers -- all the comforts of home. Other facilities include meeting rooms, lecture areas, a 300-seat theatre, library, excellent computer facilities, and an indoor pool - all set amongst the towering old growth forest. |

Meals
are eaten in a separate dining room overlooking the sea. Meals
are hearty and nutritious and complemented by stimulating conversation
with young people from all over the world. Satisfy your appetite
for sustenance and knowledge! ...We welcome vegetarians, and
we try to accommodate a range of medical or religious meal requirements. |
Recreation,
along with problem solving, leadership and teamwork,
a fundamental aspect of the Pearson Seminar on Youth Leadership
is to explore other cultural experiences through recreational
activities such as canoeing and kayaking, visits to the Race
Rocks Marine Reserve, swimming in the pool, hiking in Provincial
Parks and exploring the Pacific Coast, exploring the richness
of the culture of the First Nations, and learning dances and
songs from around the world. These activities are a natural
extension of the Pearson Seminar on Youth Leadership - a program
which not only helps students prepare for the future, but
also encourages them to share their concerns, knowledge and
skills with other young people. |
The
Student Common Room
is your chance to meet and socialize with your fellow participants.
It's here where you can sit back and relax, discuss the issues
of the day. There will also be open mic nights where you can
show off all your many talents, dances, and other events. The
Student Common Room has a student-run store, a stereo system,
and coffee/hot chocolate/tea available in the evenings. So after
a long, hard day spent exploring global issues, enjoying the
outdoors, and developing your skills -- come on by for a break. |
